Amy McDonald is appointed Head of Youth Development

Glasgow City are delighted to announce the appointment of Amy McDonald as Head of Youth Development for Glasgow City Football Club.

Amy joined Glasgow City from Celtic last season as a first team player and was approached by Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black about the new role recently.

Speaking about the appointment Eddie said,

“Since Amy joined the club last season, I have noted her enthusiasm and talent towards coaching and she has been assisting our community coaching on a weekly basis since she joined. However, since suffering a bad injury at the very start of the season her off-field involvement has been increased and it is during this time that I have personally been able to fully appreciate Amy and what she can bring to the club as a coach. I had been deliberating over this role for some time and Amy turned out to be the perfect choice. Her role will encompass the overseeing of the entire youth set up, providing a link between the senior sides and the youth structure. She is also in charge of the ongoing development of the coaching staff at youth level as well as of course driving the development of the youth players and the philosophy of the club.”

As well as coaching experience and a great understanding of the club philosophy, Amy brings with her countless experience of having played at the very highest level in the women's game, both domestically and for Scotland. She has also proved herself off the field in her work on our Quality Mark and her drive and ambition easily matches that which this club has.

Glasgow City began its youth set up only three years ago and already the club has made enormous strides in this area, most notably this season with our Under 13’s winning the League Cup and the St Andrews tournament. As well as the development of the existing players and coaching staff, Amy will also be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the new teams the club has planned, namely Under 9's and Under 17's. She will also help develop our community programme in partnership with James Tedford, who is our new Community Partnership Manager.

This is a very exciting time for the club as we rear what will hopefully be the Glasgow City Champions League players of the future.
