Emma Mitchell leaves City to sign professional contract with SGS Essen
It is with regret that Glasgow City formally announce that striker, Emma Mitchell has left the club to sign professionally with German side SGS Essen.
Mitchell becomes City’s third loss in just over 6 months to professional football abroad, having lost Jane Ross to Sweden earlier this month and Lisa Evans to Germany last summer. All three players were strikers with the Scottish Champions, who have dominated the domestic game in recent years having won the last 6 Premier League titles.
Similar to Evans and Ross, 20 year old Mitchell has spent her entire senior career with City, making her first team debut at 15 years old. On leaving the club, Mitchell said, “I want to thank everyone at the club for their support over the last 5 years. I genuinely would not be where I am with my football today if it wasn't for this club. Eddies coaching and opportunities to play in the Champions League have allowed me to develop as a player. I understand the investment that has been put into me and I truly wish there was some way that the club could receive some payment or compensation for me leaving as I know myself, Jane and Lisa have all now left for professional careers with the club not receiving a penny.
“I would like to wish everyone at the club all the best with this up and coming season, I'll definitely not be a stranger and will be along when I can when I am home. As they say, once City, always City!”
City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black commented, “It’s becoming a habit writing these farewell statements.
“Emma Mitchell is the latest player to leave us and try her luck at a full time club. It is to her great credit that she decided that she would only move to Germany as that is the league that appealed to her. Personally I think that Emma has all the attributes required to play in the German league, she is fit, quick, strong and has an eye for goal. Her tally of 53 goals in 58 starts for the club is remarkable for a player so young. Despite her age she has experienced a lot of highs and some lows. When she first broke into the first team it was as a defender, however I believed her most potent position was up front, her 
change of pace and strength made her a very difficult opponent to play against and I am sure a lot of defenders in the country will be glad to see the back of her. She has joined a progressive club in Germany and I can only see her being a huge success. She departs with our best wishes.”
Club Manager, Laura Montgomery said, “Similar to Eddie, it is becoming repetitive now with Emma being our third player to leave. However, we are very proud of everything she has achieved and as Club Manager it gives me great pride to see what we are developing here at this club. The coaching is second to none and our success in the Champions League is clearly not going unnoticed at the highest level. Whilst we do not want to lose our great players, we can take immense satisfaction in our development of players at Glasgow City”
