Glasgow City outclassed by Potsdam

Glasgow City were outclassed 10-0 tonight by one of the world's greatest football sides, German Champions Turbine Potsdam.

A goal within the first minute by Genoveva Anonma showed Potsdam’s intent and indeed their outstanding clinical finishing, when she volleyed home into the top corner. Further first half goals from Bianca Schmidt and Anja Mittag, gave Potsdam a 3-0 half time lead.

In the second half, Potsdam powered another seven past City with two goals from Japanese World Cup winner Yuki Nagasato and a second half double from Mittag, to give the German international her hat-trick. Another from Anonma and a strike from Dutch international Chantal de Ridder was followed by an own goal by the unlucky City defender Amy McDonald to complete the scoring.

City now need to pick themselves up for their League match against Hamilton Accies on Sunday before they face Potsdam at home next Thursday at Petershill and they will be determined to get a better result in front of the expected home support for the 6.05pm kick off.

Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black commented, “Without doubt we were beaten by an outstanding team tonight. The tempo of the match was higher than anything we have ever experienced and their finishing was simply clinical and easily the best we have ever seen in European competition. There is no hiding the fact we were defeated by a world class side starting to hit form as they approach the middle of their season. We have to accept that our season is nearing the end and a number of our players have already played 50 games this season. However, our girls have always responded brilliantly to disappointments and we have a League match on Sunday to maintain our 100% record and right now we are focused on that.”
